Richard Welch

Being a third-generation insurance professional, this industry has been part of my life for a long time. I started out with an insurer back in 1977 before moving into broking through our family business a few years later. Along the way, I’ve also worked with a multinational broker and joined Insurance Advisernet in 1998, building broad experience across the industry.

After leaving Sydney in 1996 for what I like to call a “sea change before sea change,” I’ve been based in Coffs Harbour ever since. These days, my focus is on commercial and liability risks for SME businesses, along with risk management and claims settlement - work I really enjoy because it’s practical and makes a real difference.

Outside of work, I’m getting a bit too old to play sport as much as I once did, but I’m a keen motorcyclist and enjoy spending time on the water and fishing. I also love watching all kinds of sport, spending time with my kids and grandkids, and getting away with my wife, Gail, to travel whenever we can.
